Baby Chicks - 2018 This year we hatched chickens once again. We had 24 eggs. We had 16 eggs hatch. We learned so much about chickens and caring for baby chicks. A summary video can be found on youtube and below.
Baby Chicks - 2016 We are again embarking on a hatching adventure this year in our Kindergarten AIM class! We began incubation on February 17th. We had one baby chick hatch on Monday, March 7th (an early bird). We had 15 hatch on March 8th. We had 4 more hatch on March 9th and 1 on March 10!! We ended up with a total of 25 baby chicks! We are naming the baby chicks after Dr. Seuss book characters since we are also studying Dr. Seuss this week! Our first chicken, a Cuckoo Maran, is named Cindy Loo Who. We started with 38 eggs and eight different types of chickens. Since we had 25 chickens hatch we had our highest hatch rate yet - 66%!! The baby chicks will go home on Thursday to their new homes.
Baby Chicks - 2014 This year we are hatching baby chicks yet again! We began incubation on Tuesday, March 11th. We have 24 eggs in our incubator. They are 8 different types of chickens. They started hatching on March 30th and are still hatching!! Above is a picture of the 12 we have so far!
Baby Chicks - 2013 This year our baby chicks began in our incubator on Monday, April 8th. We started with 26 eggs. We are going to be hatching five different types of chickens. Rhode Island Reds, Easter Eggers, Plymouth rocks, Dominiques, and Polish Silikies. Our expected hatch date is Tuesday, April 30th to Wednesday, May 1st. We are very excited for their arrival!We had 14 chicks hatch and go home for adoption.
Baby Chicks - 2012
Our baby chicks project began on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012. We started with 30 eggs. We hatched four different types of chickens, Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Black Autralorps, and Easter Eggers. We ended up with 12 chickens hatching.
